JAKARTA - The Ministry of Religion cooperates with ten Institutes of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of State Islamic Universities (PTKIN) to formulate a thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN) program based on community economic empowerment.
"We want to encourage PTKIN LPPM so that it can synergize community service activities through thematic KKN, especially in programs related to zakat and waqf through the economic empowerment of the people," said Director General of Islamic Guidance at the Ministry of Religion Abu Rokhmad in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, May 12.
The LPPM PTKIN comes from UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, UIN Walisongo Semarang, and UIN Antasari Banjarmasin.
In addition, LPPM PTKIN also came from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, UIN Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, UIN Raden Intan Lampung, UIN Datokarama Palu, and UIN Alauddin Makassar.
Abu Rokhmad said thematic KKN is needed to unite academic activities with the strategic issues of the people. He emphasized the importance of student contributions in strengthening a religious-based economy.
According to him, this program is in line with the Asta Protas of the Minister of Religion, especially the point of empowering the people's economy. Strengthening the religious economy aims to present a religion that has a real impact on people's social lives.
"We want students to also learn from this good practice. How zakat and waqf can be managed productively, transparently, and have a broad impact," he said.
Abu also revealed the importance of student roles in strengthening a productive religious ecosystem and relevant to the needs of the community. He encourages data integration and mapping of people's potential as the basis for program preparation.
"We want LPPM not only to be a technical implementer, but also a strategic partner in designing programs based on real community needs. Zakat villages, productive waqf incubation, and waqf cities can become the thematic KKN locus going forward," said Abu Rokhmad.

In addition, Abu invited the chairman of the LPPM PTKIN to ground programs and services owned by the Directorate General of Islamic Guidance.
He assessed that this could help people at the KKN location understand the services available at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), including procedures and service costs.
"If we synergize Zakat Village, KUA for the Empowerment of the People's Economy, Waqf City, and Productive Waqf Incubation in one area, the impact will look faster," he said.
