From Sumatra To Papua, Today's Weather Is Controlled By Rain

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most parts of Indonesia will experience rain with varying intensity, ranging from light rain to rain accompanied by lightning on Wednesday, May 7.

BMKG forecaster Aulia Siti Syahdian said that the dominance of rainy weather was recorded as widespread in various big cities from west to east of Indonesia.

"Light rain is predicted to occur in a number of major cities on the island of Sumatra, such as Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Palembang, and Bandar Lampung," Aulia was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

Next, said Aulia, in Java, light rain also has the potential to flush Serang and Semarang. Similar conditions are expected to occur in Mataram and Kupang in the Nusa Tenggara region, as well as a number of cities in Kalimantan such as Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda.

Meanwhile, in Sulawesi, light rain has the potential to fall in Manado, Gorontalo, Palu, Mamuju, Makassar, and Kendari. In eastern Indonesia, the potential for light rain is also predicted to occur in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and Nabire.

In addition to light rain, BMKG predicts rain with moderate intensity in a number of areas, including Bandung and Jayapura. Tanjung Selor in North Kalimantan, as well as Merauke in South Papua, is also expected to experience moderate rain.

Aulia conveyed that the BMKG warned of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in several cities, such as Pangkal Pinang in the Bangka Belitung Islands, Yogyakarta, Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan, and Jayawijaya in Papua Mountains.

"Meanwhile, thick cloudy weather conditions are predicted to dominate Jakarta, Surabaya, Padang, Bengkulu and Denpasar," he said.

He appealed to the public to remain alert to potential extreme weather, especially rain accompanied by lightning which can have an impact on people's daily activities. He emphasized the importance of monitoring weather information updates that are available every three hours through the official BMKG channel.
