JAKARTA - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Pos Pasaman, West Sumatra, has closed the search for victims who were attacked by crocodiles in the Batang Rosak area, Jorong Sikabau, Nagari Ranah Koto Tinggi, Koto Balingka District.
"The search has been closed today, but we will continue to monitor the victim, Surriadi (56), who was allegedly attacked by a crocodile while looking for fish," said the Coordinator of the Search and Rescue Post for Basarnas Pos Pasaman Novi Yurandi at Simpang Empat, Friday, May 2.
According to him, on Thursday (1/5) the joint team found pieces of the victim's body in the form of his right leg which was found in the upstream direction of the river about 2.3 kilometers from the initial location where the victim was attacked by a crocodile.
"If later there are other pieces of the body and the community needs evacuation, we will go down again," he said.
The SAR team searched for victims for five days since the victim was declared missing on Saturday (26/4/2025) night.
The pieces of the victim's body found have been buried by the victim's family.
According to him, according to standard operating procedures (SOP), the victim's search for crocodiles can last for seven days.
"According to the SOP, the search can be carried out for seven days. However, after deliberation with various parties, the search was stopped," he said.
During the five-day search, his party used a rubber boat and a thermal drone, and the search also involved four local fishing boats.
"The search also involves local divers and also follows a series of local wisdom," he said.
The victim is a resident of Muara Simpang, Nagari Koto Sawah, Lembah Melintang District, West Pasaman Regency.
