JAKARTA - The Cipinang Class I Penitentiary (Lapas) emphasized its commitment to fighting illegal levies (extortion) through service socialization activities and complaint mechanisms that took place in the visiting room, Thursday, May 1.

This activity was led directly by the Head of Prison (Kalapas), Wachid Wibowo, who called for the importance of transparency, accountability, and free service for all inmates and their families.

"If there is extortion, don't be afraid to report. We provide all our services free of charge. We provide a complaint mechanism that can be used, both by the inmates and their families, and we guarantee the confidentiality and safety of the complainant," said Wachid when delivering directions in front of officers and inmates.

He also explained that complaints can be submitted through complaints boxes available in each residential block, or online via WhatsApp at 0812-1351-5837, as well as through the LATUCIP GO Application, especially through the PANDUSAPI (Satu Pintu Integrated Service) feature which provides a digital complaint channel directly.

"We want to ensure that all public services in Cipinang Prison, run according to standards, are free of illegal levies (extortion), and are oriented towards respecting basic rights. I deliberately went directly to hear input from the public," said Wachid Wibowo.

"We open the widest space for the families of the inmates, to submit reports if they find indications of extortion or services that are not in accordance with procedures. There is no need to be afraid. We will take it seriously and professionally," he said.

Head of Administration for Security and Order (ADKAMTIB), Yulius Jum Hertantono, added that firm action will be taken against any extortionists, both those from officers and accompanying staff.

"The service in the prison must be free from extortion. If there are people who are proven to have violated it, we will process it according to applicable regulations. Integrity is the price of death," he said.

This socialization was positively welcomed by the inmates. One of them, YK (48), who is currently serving a crime related to narcotics cases. He admitted that he felt more understanding the flow and procedures of correctional services.

Socialization like this makes it difficult for us to be deceived or used easily. Now we know how to access official services and can report if something goes wrong," he said.

Through this activity, Cipinang Class I Prison continues to strive to strengthen service transparency, increase the active participation of inmates and families, and build public trust in the correctional system.

A clear information disclosure-based approach and complaint access is an important foundation in realizing humanist, accountable, and dignified correctional services.

It is known that family visits are held every Monday to Thursday, divided into two sessions: 09.00 a.m. local time and 13.00 p.m. local time and all visits are free of charge.
