Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that part of the total six demands made by workers on the commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day are being carried out by the government.

"We are actually working on some of the demands, one of which is related to layoff mitigation. We are intensive in the last few weeks to formulate what substance should be included in the layoff mitigation process," said the Minister of State Secretary when met at the Monas area, Central Jakarta, Thursday, May 1, reported by ANTARA.

Based on an official statement from one of the trade unions, the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI), the workers carried out six demands in commemoration of Labor Day this year, namely asking the government to remove the outsourced work system, forming a layoff task force.

Then, realizing decent wages, protecting workers by passing the new Employment Bill, protecting household workers through the ratification of the PPRT Bill, and eradicating corruption by ratifying the Asset Confiscation Bill.

Of the six demands, Prasetyo explained that the government continues to discuss the substance in the legal umbrella regarding the mitigation of layoffs through the establishment of the Task Force for the Expansion of Job Opportunities and Mitigation of Layoffs.

Prasetyo explained that the government wants the layoff Mitigation Task Force not only to handle cases downstream, but thoroughly, both from the industrial sector, business, to workers.

"We want it to be designed in such a way that when we talk about the demands, we have already worked on some of them. But even if there are among the six demands that we have not done together, we will definitely follow up, we will definitely study them," said Prasetyo.

The Task Force for the Expansion of Job Opportunities and Mitigation of Layoffs is one of three new task forces approved by President Prabowo to be formed after the Indonesian Government negotiated a reciprocal tariff policy with top US officials.

In this year's May Day commemoration, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to make a speech to hundreds of thousands of workers who are present in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, Thursday.

"Mr. President immediately responded and God willing tomorrow he will be present tomorrow at the commemoration of International Labor Day," Prasetyo said after a gathering with the union at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (30/4).

The Minister of State Secretary said President Prabowo considers workers or laborers to be pillars of the economy so that the government, the private sector, industry, and all policy makers must cooperate with labor elements.
