Founder Of Haidar Alwi Institute Invites The Community To Return To Trust In The Body Of The Police

JAKARTA - Founder of Haidar Alwi Institute Haidar Alwi emphasized the importance of rebuilding public trust in police institutions.

He considered that under the leadership of General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the National Police began to show a more humane and close face to the people.

"If I have an interest in the National Police Chief, it is immediately responded to. Yes, maybe there is a time lag, but still responded. I didn't get that at the previous National Police Chief. So let's build people's trust in the police. Police love the people, people love the police," Haidar said in his statement, Monday, April 28, 2025.

Haidar also gave an example of an inspirational story from the United States, where a mother who stole milk for her child was actually assisted by the police, not strictly prosecuted.

Haidar Alwi said, highlighting how the National Police under General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is getting closer to the community. He invited the public to strengthen trust in the police, while exemplifying the importance of a humanist approach to law enforcement.

"We want humble (friendly) police officers, truly populist, and loved by the people. And I see it in General Sigit's personality," he added.

Haidar also answered media questions about the importance of structuring the legal system, especially in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

He emphasized that the role of investigators should only be held by the police, while the prosecutor acts as a public prosecutor.

"This is a study according to my study. Later there may be a next study. In the Criminal Procedure Code it must be clear that the position of the police as investigators is the prosecutor. Don't be confused. If the prosecutor can investigate and demand, later our people will be confused. So the legal line must be good, demand, and runut so that people are not confused," concluded Haidar Alwi, who also serves as the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian People's Nawacita Movement (GNRI) and the LBH of the United Bee.
