Status Of Special Region For Solo Still Discourse, Government Waits For Official Process

Deputy Minister of State Secretary (Wamensesneg) Juri Ardiantoro responded to the discourse of the special area of Surakarta City (Solo) as one of the many proposals submitted to Commission II of the DPR regarding regional arrangement.

"There are various proposals, yes, many, ranging from expansion to increasing the status of one region. All are accommodated in Commission II," said Juri, Sunday, April 27.

The jury appealed to the public not to rush into assessing the proposal because until now there has been no official discussion or any decision. "As long as there is no discussion and no decision, we'll just have to wait," he said.

In fact, the jury said that they had not received official information regarding Solo's proposal to become a special area as widely reported. "I don't know yet, I haven't received any information," he said.

When asked if he wanted to propose his home area, Tegal, to become a special area, the jury joked, "The date is very special, it doesn't need to be privileged anymore," he continued.

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian also stated that he would conduct an in-depth study regarding the proposal for the special area of Solo City. He emphasized that all proposals would be assessed based on the criteria that had been set.

"The name of the proposal is okay, but later we will study what the reason is," Tito said when met in Jakarta.

Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Aria Bima previously revealed that Solo is one of six regions in Indonesia that is proposed to be a special area.

"Like my Solo area, asking for expansion from Central Java and asked to create the Special Region of Surakarta," said Aria Bima at a meeting of Commission II with the Director General of Regional Autonomy.

Data from the Directorate General of Regional Autonomy of the Ministry of Home Affairs until April 2025 noted that there were 341 proposals for regional arrangement, consisting of:- 42 proposals for the formation of provinces- 252 proposals for the formation of districts- 36 proposals for the formation of cities- 6 proposals for the formation of special areas of autonomy

All of these proposals will be studied further in accordance with statutory provisions before being decided, including the special Solo area.
