Surya Paloh: Building The Nation Is Not Just A Matter Of The Smartness Of Elite Oration

Chairman of the DPP NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, said that efforts to build the nation were not only about the intelligence of leaders or elites in the country, but also had to be built through a mental attitude.

In the Closing of the First Session of the NasDem Party State Youth Program at NasDem Tower, Jakarta, Saturday, Paloh invited the younger generation not to get caught up in pretending behavior and to build a free mental attitude.

"Lain on the lips, other in the heart, other words, other actions. That's our common enemy," Paloh said during a speech.

He said that Indonesia should not only sit equally low and stand as high as other countries, but must have greater ambitions.

He believes that Indonesia can become a superpower country if its leaders want to empower and prove the real strength of the Indonesian nation.

Paloh assessed that mental empowerment is the most important thing in developing a country, compared to relying solely on natural resources and such a large population.

"That what is meant by the movement of change is changes in our mentality. Our attitude and behavior. That is the movement of change, that is what this nation needs," he said.

For this reason, he said that the hopes of the country in the future are the younger generation or teenagers of the nation who still have dedication, ideals, and idealism.

This hope cannot be given to people his age who are judged to be constantly drunk with power and desire to build personal and group interests.

"There (the younger generation) there is still honesty, there is still courage, and there is still a desire to improve and fight for a great country," he said.
