Batam Transit Utama Departure Of Illegal Migrant Workers, KemenP2MI-Polda Kepri Declaration Of Prevention

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) together with the Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri) declared prevention of unprocedural or illegal migrant workers at the Riau Police Headquarters, Friday, April 25.

"I deliberately visited the Riau Islands Police because there is one very important thing, because the Regional Police Chief and the entire ranks initiated a joint declaration of preventing illegal migrant workers and TIP actions," said Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Minister (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding in Riau Islands, Friday, April 25, confiscated by Antara.

According to Minister Karding, this declaration was important to attend because it was the first time it was carried out by the regional police together with the ministry.

In addition, because Batam in Riau Islands is the main transit center for the departure and arrival of non-procedural migrant workers.

"So I have to respect this (declaration)," he said.

To prevent illegal migrant workers in the Batam area, he said, cooperation from various parties is needed, ranging from law enforcement, to preventing migrant workers who will depart non-procedurally.

He stressed that migrant workers must be trained or equipped in advance in order to depart procedurally or legally.

"We and the Riau Islands Regional Police have a plan to encourage those who will depart illegally to be prevented, we ask them to really want to work assisted to be trained early, then sent procedurally," he said.

To prevent illegal migrant workers, Minister Karding encouraged all parties in the Riau Islands to enforce strict law against brokers, syndicates or mafias for non-procedural migrant workers.

Then take a more subtle approach, namely all non-procedural migrant workers who prevent their departure based on the classification and clusters carried out, to be trained and dispatched back to their destination countries procedurally.

He emphasized that 95 percent of the problems experienced by migrant workers abroad are migrant workers who depart non-procedurally

The Head of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Inspector General Pol. Asep Safrudin said the presence of Minister Faridng in this declaration was to encourage his party to cooperate and coordinate to prevent and take action against any activities related to non-procedural migrant workers.

"Forkopimda Kepri together with the community made a declaration for prevention and there were no activities to send non-procedural workers abroad," said Asep.
