JAKARTA - A total of 137 of the 201 Electronic Parking Terminal (TPE) machines in Jakarta were reported to be in a damaged condition. Only 64 machines are still functioning at various road points in the capital.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that this damage was caused by limited spare parts that were difficult to find.
"This engine has been installed from Sweden since 2016. But since 2018-2019, after sales and spare parts have been problematic. So many are damaged," explained Syafrin in Jakarta, Friday, April 25.
As a result of the damage, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government lost the potential for large amounts of parking retribution income.
Transactions are again carried out manually through parking attendants (jukir), so they are not recorded electronically.
"Once the TPE is damaged, the transaction becomes manual again. The income has decreased drastically," said Syafrin.
To overcome this problem, the DKI Provincial Government is preparing a more reliable parking digitization system.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, plans to update the TPE engine with domestic components to make it easier to repair.
Currently, the DKI Transportation Agency is testing new parking machines on four roads. The trial will be extended to six additional points in May 2025. If successful, these machines will replace the old systems throughout Jakarta.
