The Bantul Regency Communications and Information Office will install a closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance camera at illegal waste disposal points in the area.

Head of the Bantul Communication and Information Agency (Kominfo) Bobor Arifi Aidin said the CCTV installation was carried out to support the Bantul Regency Government's program in handling waste optimally.

"So, at this time we are conducting a survey in several locations where there is illegal waste disposal, and in the near future we plan to install CCTV cameras," he said in Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Thursday, April 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, this step is an effort to prevent and anticipate the occurrence of waste disposal that is not in its place by irresponsible parties or individuals, and has an impact on the waste problem.

Bobor did not say for sure the location which was allegedly a place for illegal waste disposal. However, based on observations, it is around the ring road south and on the border with Yogyakarta City.

"We urge the public not to throw garbage anywhere, because later CCTV will be monitored," he said.

Meanwhile, Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih said, apart from infrastructure development, what is no less important is to raise public awareness to care about waste, one of which is throwing garbage in its place.

The Bantul Regency Government will also deploy a Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to bring order to people who litter.

"What is more difficult is to build a culture of caring for waste in society. We are targeting that by 2025 this waste issue, especially in Bantul, must be resolved," he said.
