A great fire hit the 3rd floor of the BPJS Building, which is located on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Cempaka Putih District, Central Jakarta, on Thursday morning, April 24, 2025.
The fire is thought to have originated from an electrical short in one of the rooms that is in the process of being renovated. The spark was first seen at around 01.30 WIB by a security building named Edy, who was on guard at the back post at that time.
"Suddenly I saw sparks from the 3rd floor window," said Edy.
He had tried to extinguish the fire with a light fire extinguisher (APAR). However, his efforts failed because the thicker black smoke made the situation impossible to extinguish it independently.
"I tried to use an APAR, but the smoke got thicker, so I immediately reported it to the fire department," he continued.

Shortly thereafter, 22 fire engines were deployed from the Cempaka Putih Damkar Post and a number of surrounding areas. The fire was successfully extinguished at around 02.15 WIB, after almost an hour of intensive watering.
Luckily, there were no casualties or injuries in this incident. However, the loss due to the fire is estimated at IDR 2 billion.
The cause of the temporary fire is suspected to be due to a short circuit in the area being renovated. Currently, the Cempaka Putih Police are still conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause.
