Pope Francis Dies, PGI: He Teaches Humanity And Brotherhood

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) Gomar Gultom mourns the death of Pope Francis today, Monday, April 21. He said this figure always places humanity and brotherhood above all else.

"All mankind lost with his departure. He has made a deep track because he put humanity and brotherhood above all else," said Gomar when contacted by VOI, Monday, April 21.

Gomar said Pope Francis had always taught humanity and brotherhood to exceed religious boundaries. "Even beyond the choice of faith," he stressed.

"Deep condolences for his passing. He has finished his match in this world and I think he has won it," continued Gomar.

As previously reported, Pope Francis, who was the first leader of the Roman Catholic Church from Latin America, died at the age of 88. He recently left the hospital after undergoing treatment due to a serious double pneumonia attack.

The Pope was treated at Gemelli Hospital, Rome, Italy on February 13 and allowed to return home on March 23.

"Dear brothers and sisters, with deep sadness I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis," Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced on the Vatican TV channel.

"At 7.35 this morning the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to Father's house," the announcement continued.

It is known that Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected pope on March 13, 2013. This incident shocked many church observers because they were considered outsiders.

Pope Francis is trying to project simplicity in his great role. He has never occupied a decorated papal apartment at the Apostholic Palace like his predecessor for reasons of psychological health.

While in office, he inherited a church that was attacked by a child sexual abuse scandal and torn apart by internal disputes within the Vatican bureaucracy. Pope Francis was elected with a clear mandate to restore order.

But over time, Pope Francis faced strong criticism from conservatives. He is accused of damaging high-junction traditions.

On the other hand, Pope Francis has also drawn the anger of progressives, who feel he should have done more to reshape the 2,000-year-old Church.

As he struggles against internal dissent, Pope Francis becomes a global star. His trip abroad has always been a concern to promote dialogue and peace between religions, by sided with marginalized people, such as migrants.
