The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Quarantine Center has tightened the supervision of livestock in the form of sacrificial cows leaving the NTB area through ports on the island of Sumbawa and the island of Lombok.
Head of the NTB Quarantine Center Agus Mugiyanto said the number of cattle leaving NTB had reached 6,556 heads as of April 16-20, 2025.
"We carry out surveillance at the expenditure and income gate, as well as check points to ensure that the cattle being trafficked have been certified by the quarantine of the expenditure gate," he said in Mataram, Antara, Monday, April 21.
Agus said the location of the inspection by the quarantine team at the expenditure gate was at Poto Tano Port located in West Sumbawa Regency and Badas Port in Sumbawa Regency.
The quarantine team is tasked with ensuring the same number of cows between those trafficked and those in the certificate.
According to him, the cows that will be trafficked have gone through the physical and laboratory examination processes. So, it has been declared feasible to be trafficked outside the island or out of the province.
"If there are cows that are not healthy, they will be treated until they are healthy. If they cannot be treated or are not healthy until the time of departure, they will not be dispatched," said Agus.
The condition of Gili Mas Port and Lembar Harbor in West Lombok Regency is currently filled with cow-carrying trucks that want to sail to Java Island. They are waiting in line for a transport ship that is only available for one unit.
Ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebration, thousands of cows, especially from Bima and Dompu, as the main supplier areas for West Nusa Tenggara sacrificial cattle, routinely send livestock to the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).

During the process of waiting for queues to enter the ship, several cows died due to fatigue and overheating due to the hot and arid port situation.
"We coordinate with the agency and direct it to be buried. Usually the dead cows are taken care of by the owner, we are just watching," said Agus.
