Fire In Surabaya, Father And Son Died In Three Floor House

SURABAYA - A father and son died in a fire that hit a three-story house in the Jalan Kedung Rukem area, Surabaya City, Thursday, April 17 in the morning.

Head of the Surabaya City Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP) Laksita Rini said the two were found dead at two different points.

"His father with the initials W (69) was found on the steps between the first and second floors, while the son with the initials SR (36) was found in front of the second floor room," said Lakita Rini when confirmed by ANTARA.

At the time of the incident, five occupants were in the house, and three others managed to escape by jumping into a neighboring building from the roof of the second floor.

According to reports, male victims were known to be sick and sleeping on the first floor, allegedly having difficulty saving themselves when the fire began to grow.

The bodies of the two victims, he continued, had been evacuated to the Bhayangkara Hospital of the East Java Police by a team from the Social Service and PMI, together with the Surabaya Police Inafis team.

The fire engines that were deployed to the scene of the fire (TKK) were 15 units, consisting of a fighting fleet and rescue teams.

"The fire was successfully extinguished at 01.37 WIB, and the wetting process was completed at 03.05 WIB," he said.

His party suspects that the fire came from the first floor which functions as a place of business, namely grocery stores, LPG sales, refilled water, and frozen food.

This was strengthened because the LPG sales business area and refilled water became the worst burning point.

Meanwhile, the second floor was affected by around 50 percent, while the third floor was not hit by the flames.

Rini added that apart from claiming two lives, the fire also scorched two motorbikes parked in the house and hundreds of merchandise from the family.

"The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We urge the public to be more careful, especially in storing flammable materials at home," he said.
