JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo appointed Nadiem Makarim as Minister of Education and Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbud-Ristek).

After the inauguration, Nadiem thanked Jokowi for mandating additional tasks in the research and technology fields. Nadiem admits that his new assignment is closely related to his background.

"Research and technology is something that is very close to my heart. This is something I have been working on before carrying out my assignment at the Ministry of Cultural Education," said Nadiem at the State Palace, Wednesday, April 28.

Nadiem has high hopes for improving the quality and innovation of universities and colleges in the fields of research and technology. This is in line with Jokowi's vision in the Merdeka Learning program.

Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture and Research and Technology is a partner of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), which is currently headed by Laksana Tri Handoko. Therefore, he wants as many students as possible to do research.

"This is one of the things that is also in line with link and match and the improvement of twenty-first century skills in our universities to study outside of academia as well. In research, in social projects, internships in industry, and various kinds of student exchange, "explained Nadiem.

Apart from Nadiem, today Jokowi also appointed Bahlil Lahadalia as Minister of Investment. The inauguration was held around 15.00 WIB. Judging from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube broadcast, this implementation still applies strict health protocols.

The inauguration was preceded by singing the song 'Indonesia Raya'. Then the Presidential Decree was read out regarding the appointment of Bahlil as Minister of Investment and Nadiem as Minister of Education and Culture-Research and Technology. Furthermore, President Jokowi guided the reading of the oath of office carried out by the two of them.

Jokowi also inaugurated the Head of National Agency for Research and Innovation, namely Laksana Tri Handoko. Then, Jokowi appointed Professor of Criminal Law from the University of Indonesia, Indriyanto Seno Adji as a member of the KPK Supervisory Board.
