BANDUNG - Padjadjaran University (Unpad) stated that the identity of the doctor suspected of being the perpetrator of the harassment in Garut, whose video went viral, Muhammad Syafril Firdaus, is an alumni of a specialist program at the Faculty of Medicine, Unpad.

"The results of the identification show that it is true that the alumni of the specialist program at FK Unpad. However, when referring to the circulating videos that did not clearly show the faces of the alleged perpetrators, Unpad could not (can) confirm this," said Head of the Unpad Public Communication Office on behalf of the Unpad leadership, Dandi Supriadi, in Bandung, Tuesday, April 15.

Since his face was not clearly visible on the video footage, Dandi said the university was still waiting for the results of the official investigation and evidence from the police.

The alleged perpetrator, he said, if proven to be the person concerned, has now graduated and works professionally, so that it has been beyond Unpad's authority.

"Thus this case is beyond the authority of Unpad or other campuses where the person concerned studied beforehand. In other words, the cases that have occurred are outside the realm of educational institutions," he said.

Therefore, for the matter of proof actions, legal sanctions and professional sanctions for the case, he continued, Unpad handed over to the authorities, namely the police, hospital institutions, and local professional organizations to provide guidance.

For the immoral case committed by an obstetrician at a private hospital in Garut, as well as several cases of violations of the professional code of ethics by medical personnel, Unpad expressed deep concern for the victims.

"It is not limited to that case alone, in principle Unpad regrets and does not tolerate all actions that occur anywhere, which have actually tarnished the code of ethics and oath of office of the medical profession, as allegedly happened," he said.

In general, Unpad continues to evaluate the curriculum and ethical regulations of education on campus so that they remain relevant to current conditions and ensure that people continue to believe in the education process at Unpad.

"In addition, Unpad has a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) for incidents that occur on campus. Therefore, Unpad urges the public to immediately report all violations that occur in the realm of educational institutions, so that we can act quickly," he said.

Previously, a video of CCTV footage was spread regarding alleged sexual harassment by an obstetrician at a clinic in the Garut area.

The video is spread on a number of social media accounts, as well as on WhatsApp groups showing a doctor examining a patient using Ultrasonography (USG).

The video is not clear enough regarding the alleged direction of abuse, only showing the doctor's hand movements are like examining an obstetric patient in the area approaching the patient's breast.
