Responding To The Rape Case Of PPDS Doctor At RSHS Bandung, The Minister Of Health Will Make Improvements

JAKARTA - Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, responded to the rape case by a doctor who was an anesthetized resident of the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) for the patient's family at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung.

The Minister of Health acknowledged that there were shortcomings and regretted the escape of supervision within the scope of vertical hospitals. He also stated that the Ministry of Health would take steps to improve in the next month.

"We are the first, we don't have to dodge. We have to admit that there are shortcomings. Never say that there are no shortcomings, people will feel very hurt. If we don't admit there are shortcomings or mistakes," said the Minister of Health, Saturday, April 12.

Although not all parties recognize shortcomings in the field, the Minister of Health ensures that improvements will continue to be made in health services at RSHS and the education process at FK Unpad. "Because this involves two institutions, now this must be improved," he said.

The Minister of Health said that further investigations, including access to drugs that can be obtained by rape perpetrators, will be investigated immediately.

The Minister of Health assessed that the lack of supervision in the field was the reason for the PPDS Unpad process at RSHS which was temporarily suspended. He also said that the termination of PPDS FK Unpad for the anesthetic program at RSHS would not interfere with the running of education.

The Minister of Health said that this case was the same as what happened at the temporary dismissal of PPDS, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga (FK Unair) at the Kariadi Hospital, Semarang. Residents can still continue their education in other hospitals.

"Once again it doesn't stop the study process. It doesn't stop the learning process, it can still study in other hospitals. So far, it hasn't been studied in one hospital, it's studied in several hospitals. But Hasan Sadikin Hospital, because this happened there, I want to fix it first," he concluded.
