JAKARTA - American Airlines' regional jet passengers got off the plane on Tuesday's runway in Augusta, Georgia, after smelled burning and saw light smoke in the cabin.

American Flight 5406, operated by PSA Airlines landed in Augusta after a 36-minute flight from Charlotte, according to flight tracking site FlightAware.

"The cabin was filled with smoke, and we climbed out through the wings," passenger Sean O'Conor told of a time when he recorded an evacuation video, reported by CNN on April 10.

"It looks like everyone is safe," he said.

The CRJ-900 aircraft experienced "maintainment issues after landing safely in Augusta," the airline told CNN.

"All passengers get off and are delivered to the airport terminal. Customer safety is our top priority, and we apologize for the inconvenience," he continued.

Flight back to Charlotte with the plane canceled, but the plane resumed operations a day later, according to FlightAware.

On Wednesday, another plane flying the same route from Charlotte to Augusta also had mechanical problems, American Airlines told CNN.

The plane, CRJ-700, was circling and returning to Charlotte after about 20 minutes of airing, according to FlightAware.

Three hours later, the plane took off again and managed to reach Augusta safely.
