Foreign Minister Sugiono Affirms Support For Palestine At The OKI-Laga Arab Meeting

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's support for the Palestinian people at the Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee Meeting in Antalya, Republic of Turkey, Friday, April 11.

"Indonesia is committed to playing a more active role in helping the Palestinian people," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, April 12.

The Joint Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee series began with a meeting of Foreign Ministers members of the OKI-Laga Arab Special Envoy, which was followed by an extended meeting involving partners, namely a number of European countries and members of the UN Security Council.

In his statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's support for the realization of Palestinian independence was based on the Two-State Solution.

Sugiono also expressed Indonesia's willingness to provide medical treatment for Palestinians who were injured and traumatized by the war.

According to him, this will be done if all stakeholders also agree.

Related to this, the President of the Republic of Indonesia is currently in the area to conduct consultations with the leaders of a number of countries in the Middle East.

The meeting agreed on the Joint Statement Antalya Ministerial Meeting for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and Lasting Peace in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Sugiono is in the Republic of Turkey in order to accompany the President of the Republic of Indonesia on a series of visits by the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the Middle East.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister received a mandate at the Extraordinary OKI-Liga Arab Summit on November 11, 2023, as one of the Special Envoys for the Arabian OIC-League.

One of the mandates of the Special Envoys included stopping Israeli atrocities in Gaza and restarting the political process towards eternal peace. The OKI-Liga Arab Special Envoy consists of the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, Indonesia, Jordania, Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, Turkey, and Nigeria.
