YOGYAKARTA - The Directorate General (Ditjen) of Islamic Community Guidance (Bimas) of the Ministry of Religion requires marriage requirements in the form of marriage guidance at KUA (Bimwin). This policy has been in effect since the end of July 2024.

The Director General of Bimas Islam issued Circular Letter Number 02 of 2024 concerning Marriage Guidance for Bride and Groom Candidates. The circular contains the obligation to undergo marriage guidance for prospective brides.

The purpose of this marriage guidance is to provide briefing to brides and grooms in order to master knowledge in planning quality families and planning quality generations, so that sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah families can be realized.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Sakinah Family Development Sub-Directorate, Agus Suryo Suripto, explained that his party was conducting socialization related to the mandatory marriage guidance rules until the end of July 2024.

"It will take us six months to socialize this rule until next July, involving the head of the KUA, penghulu, and extension workers in the SAPA KUA activities," he explained, quoted from the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion.

After the socialization period ends, brides and grooms who do not follow the guidance of marriage are not allowed to print marriage books to follow the Bimwin first. Suryo explained that this rule is very important for good family resilience in Indonesia.

"Our goal is to improve the welfare of the family. Therefore, do not hesitate to convey to the bride and groom that following the Bimwin is an obligation," he said.

According to the Head of Sub-Directorate for Family Development Sakinah, Directorate General of Islamic Guidance, Ministry of Religion, Agus Suryo Suripto, there are four factors in family problems in Indonesia that make the Ministry of Religion obligatory marriage guidance (Bimwin) for prospective brides, including:

"Through Bimwin, the bride and groom will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to build a family of sakinah, mawaddah, warahmah," Suryo said as quoted by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion's Islamic Guidance website.

Bimwin's material will cover various types of topics according to the needs that can be used as an initial provision for brides and grooms in building their households.

On the other hand, Bimwin is also a picture to the public that KUA's services and duties are more than just marriage and reconciliation.

"Bimwin also aims to change the paradigm and image of the KUA's view that not only serves marriage and reconciliation, but also takes part in solving problems with the nation's children such as child marriage, stunting, domestic violence, and divorce," he concluded.
