Russia Begins To Increase New Attacks On Ukraine

JAKARTA - Ukrainian military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Russia had launched a new attack on the northeastern region of the country. A major increase in attacks has been seen.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously warned Russia was preparing for an attack on the two areas of Kharkiv and Sumy.

"I can say that the president is completely right and this attack has actually started," Syrskyi said in an interview with Ukrainian media LB.

"Over the past few days, nearly a week, we have observed a nearly doubling increase in the number of enemy attacks in all major directions (on the front lines)," he said.

Moscow has almost completely expelled Ukrainian troops from the Kursk region, which they have controlled since last August and located across the border of the Sumy region.

Zelenskyy said on Monday Ukrainian troops were also present in the Belgorod region adjacent to Russia.

The war, which was marked in its first year by Russia's rapid territorial acquisition followed by Ukrainian counter-attacks, has since become more like a stalemate on the battlefield, with Moscow achieving relatively small gains by attacking by wave after wave of infantry troops.
