Sexual Violence Of 13 Students With Skripsi Guidance Mode, UGM Professor Fired

SLEMAN - A professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), with the initials EM, was officially fired after being suspected of sexually assaulting dozens of female students.

Based on the results of the investigation by the UGM internal team, as many as 13 female students were victims and witnesses for the disgraceful actions committed by EM. Allegations of violence occurred outside the campus area, and took place from 2023 to 2024.

"There were 13 victims and witnesses who were examined and provided information," said UGM Secretary Andi Sandi Antonius in his statement.

EM is known to use a mode under the guise of final guidance, course discussions, and preparation for academic competitions. Ironically, these activities are carried out in his private home, not in the campus environment.

"The method of activities is carried out at home, starting from thesis discussions, thesis, to competition activities," Andi added regarding cases of sexual violence committed by EM.

This case began to emerge when pharmaceutical faculty officials reported EM's behavior to the rectorate. After an internal evaluation was carried out, the UGM Rectorate decided to revoke EM's status as a lecturer and remove him from the institution.

"If the status of a lecturer from the chancellor has decided to dismiss him," said Andi.

Regarding EM's status as a state civil servant (ASN), his dismissal will follow the rules from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). Meanwhile, decisions regarding the title of professor will be determined by the Ministry of Higher Education and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek).

Currently, UGM is focusing on psychological and legal assistance to the victims. The reason is that most of them are still active female students who have not completed the study.

This scandal again reminds the importance of protecting students in academic circles and the need for a more stringent mechanism for preventing sexual violence in universities.
