Jatanras Makassar Police Criminal Investigation Unit finally arrested three perpetrators of throwing Molotov cocktails at the cross hammer post (then) at the intersection of Jalan Andi Pangeran Pettarani-Sultan Alauddin Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"The three perpetrators are still students, online ojol drivers (online motorcycle taxis) and traders," said Makassar Police Chief Kombes Arya Perdana during the release of the disclosure of the case in Makassar, Antara, Sunday, March 30.

The three suspects are MRP (19) a high school student, MS (19) an online motorcycle taxi driver and FSD (18) a trader.

The throwing action began with discussions between the three when they saw student demonstrations against the ratification of Law Number 34 of 2024 concerning the TNI in various regions, while in Makassar City there were no special incidents.

The reason the perpetrators who have been named as suspects are suspected of wanting to make Makassar noisy by creating something beyond their common sense by throwing up traffic police posts with Molotov cocktails.

"So this perpetrator really intends to riot in Makassar. One of the perpetrators of thinking in another city has been rioting with national issues. They discussed while drinking alcohol until they thought about throwing Molotov cocktails," he said.

Their action on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at around 01.00 WITA. From the surveillance camera footage or CCTV, it was seen throwing the police post with Molotov cocktails, but it did not manage to burn the post and there were no casualties.

The MRP suspect played a role in preparing the Molotov cocktail two days before the incident. Meanwhile, MS and FSD threw them at the police post on a motorbike and hit the right side of the post, then fled towards Gowa Regency.

The evidence that was secured was a motorbike, a hoodie jacket, a black bag, a number of trousers and raincoats belonging to the perpetrators. The three of them have now been detained at the Makassar Polrestabes Tahti.

The results of the interrogation of the perpetrators admitted that they were working together to commit crimes that were deemed to have caused terror to disrupt security stability in Makassar.

This action, said the police chief, was at their initiative, and it was suspected that there was an element of intent to incite.

From the actions of these three suspects subject to Article 187 paragraph (1), Article 406 and Article 170 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 15 years in prison.
