Commission V Of The House Of Representatives Reminds The Importance Of Infrastructure Readiness Ahead Of Lebaran Homecoming

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission V of the DPR Andi Iwan Darmawan Aras, reminded the importance of the readiness of public infrastructure and transportation for the smooth flow of Eid Al-Fitr 2025 homecoming. Iwan asked for anticipatory mitigation so that people can go home safely, smoothly, and comfortably following the prediction of a surge in travelers reaching 146 million people.

"The Eid al-Fitr holiday is coming soon. By the end of this week, some people may have started going home, so the relevant ministries/agencies and SOEs must immediately ensure the readiness of infrastructure, transportation modes, and other supporting facilities," said Iwan Aras, Friday, March 21.

Iwan also highlighted the importance of the readiness of public transportation modes and supporting facilities to accommodate a very large number of travelers.

"The mode of transportation needs to be considered in order to ensure the smooth flow of homecoming. Transportation modes such as buses, trains, ships, and aircraft must be well prepared to deal with the surge in travelers, which is estimated at 146 million people," he explained.

Moreover, the Government decided to extend the Lebaran 1446 Hijri/2025 holiday period for school students to 20 days, which initially started on March 24 to March 21, 2025. The reason is that apart from giving longer holidays, it is also hoped that it can unravel the congestion that may occur.

"With the addition of vacation time for school children, I think it is also important to increase the frequency and capacity of transportation modes so that people have more choices of travel schedules," explained Iwan.

"For example, the number of bus and train trips is increasing, both the fleet and the extension of the duration of the day which have additional fleets and more travel times," added the Legislator from the South Sulawesi II electoral district.

Therefore, Iwan asked the Government and relevant stakeholders to accelerate the work of road infrastructure so that people's homecoming trips will be safe and comfortable. It is known that the government ensures that the 3,020.5 km toll road and the 47,604.34 km national non-toll road are in an optimal state.

"Make sure that the construction of toll road infrastructure and national roads is completed before entering the Eid holiday period. And because at this time we are still at the end of the rainy season, pay attention to drainage infrastructure both on toll roads and arterial roads," explained Iwan.

This step is needed to prevent road damage due to puddles that can cause travel disturbances for travelers. And it is also important for BMKG to prepare a weather update information system that is easily accessible when people travel back and forth," he added.

The head of the commission in the DPR in charge of infrastructure and transportation affairs also asked the Government to pay attention to the points of rest for travelers who use private vehicles. Iwan emphasized that the rest area must be equipped with adequate facilities.

"Including clean toilets, refueling stations to health services. Public comfort and security are the main things that need to be considered during the Lebaran homecoming period," he said.

"It is also necessary to add pocketes to the travelers' resting place, and arrange the system for entry and exit of vehicles in rest-rest areas, especially rest areas that are often crowded so that there is no buildup," continued Iwan.

Furthermore, Iwan reminded about the handling of ODOL Trucks (Over Dimension Over Load) during the Lebaran homecoming flow so as not to interfere with community travel. He asked for stricter supervision of trucks that exceed capacity.

"Especially in the main homecoming routes and ship crossings, there must be restrictions and control to avoid interference with traffic smoothness and maintain the safety of travelers," said Iwan.

Iwan also asked relevant agencies and transportation service managers to anticipate the surge in travelers due to the 2025 Eid homecoming which also coincided with the Nyepi Day celebration. Because there is a high possibility of the flow of travelers before the holiday.
