JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto instructed the importance of physical and environmental quality in the construction of subsidized houses facilitated by the government for the community.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruar Sirait, at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 19, after finding significant differences in the quality of subsidized housing in various regions.

"The president ordered that subsidized houses do not mean that they are not qualified, subsidized houses must remain of high quality," said Maruarar as quoted by ANTARA.

In his report to the President, Maruarar said that many subsidized houses were well built, had decent roads, sturdy walls, flat tiles, clean water, and a green environment.

However, on the other hand, said Maruarar, subsidized houses were also found experiencing serious problems, such as flooding even though it was not raining, cracked walls in less than a year, as well as poor construction quality.

Following up on these findings, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas has asked the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to conduct an audit of subsidized housing projects.

In addition, reports related to this matter have also been submitted in a meeting with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

The government also continues to encourage the acceleration of the construction of subsidized houses. The total number of subsidized houses that have been built and distributed has reached more than 130 thousand units, with various development statuses, contracts, and lending.

To date, the construction of subsidized houses includes 9,330 units that are still in the construction stage, 14,042 units that are ready to be occupied, and 19,643 units that have received credit approval from the bank.

In addition, 20,603 units have been in the credit contract process even though the disbursement is still waiting. Overall, as many as 69,000 units have been officially distributed to the public.

Meanwhile, specifically for civil servants (PNS), the Tapera program has built and distributed 1,384 units, with the total realization reaching 1,134,937 units.

For 2025, the government has prepared a budget in the Budget Implementation List (DIPA) to build 220,000 subsidized housing units.
