JAKARTA - Dozens of inmates who had escaped from the Kutacane Penitentiary (Lapas), Southeast Aceh, were gradually being secured again. Currently, the remaining seven inmates are still being sought.
"Of the 52 who left Kutacane Prison, to this day 45 inmates have returned to Kutacane Prison," said Head of Public Relations and Protocol at the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Rika Aprianti, quoted Monday, March 17.
Of the dozens of prisoners who have been secured again, some of them were brought back by their families. However, it was not disclosed in detail about the amount.
"When one of the inmates was escorted by his family back to Kutacane Prison," said Rika.
The return of dozens of prisoners, said Rika, was the result of cooperation with the governments of the Southeast Aceh, Polri, and TNI regions.
It is hoped that the rest of the inmates who are currently still not back can be found soon.
"The Regent of Southeast Aceh together with his staff are the Camat, Village Head, Community and Religious Leaders, the families of the inmates, the Police, Kodim and all forkopimda elements who have helped a lot," said Rika.
Previously, the Director General of Corrections (Dirjen PAS), Mashudi, asked for help from all village heads (kades), sub-district heads, and community leaders to secure and return prisoners who had escaped from the Kutacane Penitentiary (Lapas), Aceh.
Mashudi stated that he would guarantee the safety of the escaped prisoners if they were handed over to the prison. They will not be punished for the escape.
