Panja Revised TNI Law Considers BPNPP Filled With Active TNI

Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives from the PDI-P Faction (PDIP) TB Hasanuddin said the working committee meeting for the revision of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Army (TNI) was considering the placement of active soldiers in the National Border Management Agency (BNPP).

The government and Commission I of the DPR are currently holding a meeting to discuss the revision of the TNI Law at the Fairmont Hotel, Central Jakarta. The activity was held for two days since Friday, March 14 yesterday.

"We will discuss the Border Agency later, whether this needs to be included again, whether there are active TNI soldiers there or not," TB Hasanuddin told reporters.

If an agreement is reached, then BNPP will become one of the ministries and institutions that can be filled by active TNI soldiers. "If it has been knocked, later beyond that, yes, you have to retire," said the legislator.

This proposal is based on the TNI Law which is still active, which states that soldiers may occupy civilian positions in 10 ministries and institutions. Then there are also other regulations governing the same thing.

"The old TNI Law is 10, that is final. Then during the reform era four laws emerged where active TNI soldiers could enter there, plus Bakamla, so there were five. Yes, it was locked like that," explained TB Hasanuddin.

The government previously proposed the expansion of the placement of active soldiers in civil office in the discussion of the revision of the TNI Law. In total there are 15 ministries and institutions that can be occupied by the active TNI.

"So there are 15 (ministerial and institutional)," said Defense Minister (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 11.

In his presentation during a working meeting with Commission I of the DPR, it was explained that the revision of the TNI Law changed Article 47 related to ministries and institutions that could be filled by TNI soldiers. Previously there were only 10, to 15.

There are five ministries and institutions added by the government, namely the marine, BNPB, BNPT, Bakamla, and the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

Details of 15 ministries and institutions that can be filled with active TNI soldiers, namely Korbid Polkam, State Defense, Setmil Pres, State Intelligence, State Password, National Defense Committee, National Search and Rescue Agency (DPN), National Search and Rescue, National Narcotics, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, BNPB, BNPT, Maritime Security, Attorney General's Office, and the Supreme Court.

In addition, TNI soldiers can also be placed outside the 15 ministries and institutions that have been mentioned. However, they had to retire early.
