JAKARTA - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. (BMRI) continues to be committed to encouraging financial inclusion in Indonesia by presenting innovations in digital services such as through the Livin' by Mandiri application, the company officially launched the QRIS Tap feature, a Near Field Communication (NFC) technology-based payment solution from Bank Indonesia.
Bank Mandiri Information Technology Director Timothy Utama conveyed that with the QRIS Tap feature, customers can make transactions faster and more practical without the need to scan the QR code manually.
Meanwhile, the QRIS Tap Livin feature is available for Android devices with NFC features and will continue to be developed for wider compatibility.
"As the leading bank implementing QRIS Tap for MRT Jakarta transportation mode, Bank Mandiri presents this service for the MRT ride from the HI Roundabout Station and comes down at Lebak Bulus Station, and vice versa," he explained in his statement, quoted on Sunday, March 16.
In the future, Timothy said that the implementation of QRIS Tap will be expanded to all MRT, TransJakarta, LRT, and various other modes of transportation.
Timothy emphasized that the implementation of QRIS Tap NFC is a strategic step in accelerating digital transformation in the financial sector and encouraging economic growth, in line with the vision of the 2030 Indonesian Payment System Blueprint (BSPI).
"We continue to innovate to provide seamless and efficient payment solutions, especially for sectors with high transaction needs such as transportation and retail. QRIS Tap not only improves user experience, but also supports the acceleration of the digital economy in Indonesia," he said.
Timothy said Bank Mandiri itself already has strong infrastructure to support the digital payment ecosystem because currently, there are hundreds of thousands of Bank Mandiri EDC machines in various favorite merchants, which will be part of the implementation of QRIS Tap.
As a form of appreciation to users, Bank Mandiri also presented a special promo in the form of cashback 50 percent on the Jakarta MRT from the HI Roundabout Station and got off at Lebak Bulus Station and vice versa using the Livin' QRIS Tap. This promo is valid from March 14 - April 13, 2025.
Timothy said that apart from the transportation sector, the QRIS Tap feature is also expected to be adopted by more merchants using EDC machines, including MSMEs, retailers, fast food restaurants, and various other services.
"With the wider application of this technology, Bank Mandiri is committed to continuing to encourage the growth of digital transactions that are more inclusive and empower business actors in various sectors," he said.
To use the QRIS Tap feature in Livin' by Mandiri, customers need to make sure their smartphone has an active NFC feature. Next, open the Livin' by Mandiri application, enter the QR Paying menu, and click the Show QR menu.
After entering the PIN, customers can directly make payments by bringing their cellphones closer to the terminal or payment machine that supports the QRIS Tap NFC.
Timothy said that QRIS Tap did not replace the existing QRIS method, but instead became a complement designed to meet faster and more efficient transaction needs.
