UI Postpones Bahlil's Smoothy, Mandatory To Revise Dissertation And Add Publication

JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) Chancellor Heri Hermansyah said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia was required to make improvements or revisions to dissertation and add scientific publications, before passing

Heri explained that the two mandates were listed in the individual Decree (SK) on the case of the dissertation of the students of the Strategic and Global Study School Doctoral Program (SKSG) Bahlil Lahadalia.

"If the contents of the decree are, there are two. The first is to postpone the judiciary until the revision is complete. The second is to add scientific publications. So, we educational institutions must also foster, not destroy," said Heri as quoted by ANTARA, March 14.

Heri explained that the mandate for Bahlil to complete the revision and add to the scientific publication was a joint agreement of him as Chancellor, Board of Trustees (MWA), Board of Professors (DGB) and Senate Academics.

He also emphasized that the issue of Bahlil's status as a doctoral student at the Yellow Campus had not yet passed because Bahlil had not gone through the judicial process which became his determination of the value and graduation at UI.

The judiciary was carried out after students completed all academic obligations, and became a requirement to attend the graduation as a sign of graduation.

"Not yet graduated. The student graduated, there was a process called the judiciary. Well, he has not yet reached the judiciary," said Heri.

The UI's decision to provide guidance to the parties involved in the Bahlil Lahadalia dissertation case was the result of a series of meetings with four UI organs.

The decision to provide guidance on the Bahlil dissertation case has also gone through a long process by the campus which has been running since November 2024.

"I was the rector in December, so even before I was appointed in the rector, the process was already underway. And I was appointed to the rector in December, even though it happened before I became the rector, it was my duty to complete it," he said.

On the previous occasion, the Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Arie Afriansyah explained that the four UI organs had unanimous one vote by expressly agreeing on the guidance for the Bahlil dissertation case.

The four UI organs have explicitly stated that Bahlil has not been accepted by his dissertation as a graduation support document.

"If the dissertation has not been received and declared valid, how can the dissertation be canceled? The demand to cancel graduation is also not appropriate," said Arie.

Because the dissertation as a supporter for graduation has not been received by the four UI organs, it means that the student has not graduated.

Four UI organs have decided that students will be postponed to graduation with a mechanism to postpone the judiciary until the revision is complete.
