KemenP2MI Receives Muhammadiyah PP Audience, Discusses Cooperation In Empowering Migrant Workers

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) invited the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP) to work together in terms of empowering Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

Minister of P2MI Abdul Kadir Karding also invited the Muhammadiyah PP Community Empowerment Council (MPM) to socialize the things needed by migrant workers procedurally.

Karding argues that there are many Indonesian migrant workers who did not last long when they were placed abroad.

"There, if they are mentally weak, they usually want to go home quickly, then only a month of work have moved to another place, run away, run away. It all happened a lot in Malaysia," said Karding in a P2MI press release, Monday, March 10, which was confiscated by Antara.

Therefore, Karding continued, empowerment of migrant workers is needed in order to produce migrant workers who are tough and do not give up easily.

He also mentioned several problems related to empowering migrant workers, such as skills, financial literacy, access to capital and strengthening families.

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the MPM PP Muhammadiyah Muh. Nurul Yamin stated that his party is ready to assist P2MI in empowering Indonesian migrant workers.

"We have a special division in the Community Empowerment Council, which stores, reviews and also empowers these migrant workers," added Nurul Yamin.

He said that PP Muhammadiyah has a migrant worker empowerment program ranging from socialization, training, placement to preparation to return to Indonesia.

"We built a role model starting from socialization, improvement, training, then placement, then monitoring and communication, to preparation back in the country," he said, adding that it needed collaboration with many parties.
