PALEMBANG - A number of residents of Palembang City, South Sumatra said that their activities had returned to normal after being flooded due to heavy rains that occurred on Sunday, March 9.
"Yes, today activities are back on track, school children as usual are no longer flooded," said Erna, a resident of Kertapati Palembang, quoted by ANTRA, Monday, March 10.
According to him, during the flood, the water level was even about 15 centimeters high on the road.
Even though they did not enter the house, the flood was quite disturbing the residents' activities because they were afraid that passing vehicles could be damaged by the flood.
The same thing was said by Imah, another resident at Pipa Reja, Kalidoni, that the water level no longer entered the house.
"Yes, in our hallway yesterday, the water level was about one meter, so we entered the house, we were flooded in the house," he said.
But according to him today, he and other neighbors are busy cleaning up the remaining floods, inside their respective homes.
He was grateful that the water had receded so that the residents' activities were back on track and the roads were no longer flooded.
However, he remains worried that heavy rainfall will fall again and cause puddles to occur again.
"There are no water channels here and the water has not been dredged for a long time, if possible, we hope to dredge it," he said.
He said the flood conditions during heavy rains in the area had occurred since 2016 until now.
Meanwhile, the BMKG appealed to residents to be aware of hydrometeorological disasters because the potential for heavy rainfall will still occur in Palembang, especially with the tidal Musi River as high as 3.4 meters on March 11-12 2025.
