Roads Damaged Due To Landslides, Access To State Tourism Above Lebak Clouds Was Closed

JAKARTA - The condition of the Cipanas-Citorek road section, which is the main access to the "Negeri Over Clouds" tourist area in Lebak Regency, Banten, was damaged by landslides that occurred in Majasari Village, Sobang District, on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 16.00 WIB.

This damage causes vehicle access to be disrupted and has the potential to endanger road users.

"We received reports that the road segment was affected by landslides due to heavy rainfall, and is currently being handled by the Banten PUPR Service by deploying heavy equipment," said Head of BPBD Lebak Regency, Febby Pratama Rizky, in Lebak, Sunday.

Landslides occur due to the high intensity of rain in a long enough duration, so that the soil becomes unstable and unable to withstand the load in the vicinity.

Currently, roads that cross the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park (TN) area can be used again after repairs made by the Banten DPUPR.

"Now the condition of the road can be passed by vehicles," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Road and Bridge Section of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for the Maintenance of Lebak Roads and Bridges at the Banten DPUPR, Firman Zuliansyah, revealed that the road was temporarily closed due to landslide material that endangered motorists.

"We urge drivers to remain careful when crossing this route, especially during heavy rains because there is still the potential for further landslides," he said.

In early December 2024, this road section was also buried by 150 meter long landslide material in Sukamaju Village, Sobang District, which had caused traffic disruptions for several days.
