JAKARTA - A Nissan Grand Livina car with police number B-1867-TOQ caught fire on the Gedong Panjang Toll Road KM 23 on Friday, March 7, at around 08.53 WIB. The fire is thought to have been caused by a sudden electrical short.

Head of Operations for the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat), Gatot Sulaeman, explained that the car driver, Ilham Khouri, initially felt strangeness in his vehicle before seeing the fire start to emerge.

"The driver saw a fire in his car, then immediately got out quickly to save himself," said Gatot when confirmed, Friday, March 7.

After realizing the fire, Ilham immediately contacted the North Jakarta Fire Department (Damkar) to ask for help. One fire car and a number of personnel were immediately dispatched to the location to extinguish the fire.

The fire was extinguished after an hour, added Gatot.

Although there were no casualties in this incident, the loss due to the fire was estimated at Rp180 million. In addition, the blackout process had caused traffic jams on the Gedong Panjang KM 23 toll road which led to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang City.

"Congestion had occurred during the blackout process, but traffic has now returned to normal," concluded Gatot.
