JAKARTA Member of Commission V DPR RI, Danang Wicaksana Sulistya, asked the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to maximize weather modification technology in anticipating potential flood disasters, especially in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas.

This step is considered crucial considering the significant increase in rainfall in recent weeks.

According to Danang, BMKG must immediately coordinate with various parties, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and other stakeholders. This is to maximize weather modification technology in order to reduce the intensity of rain that has the potential to trigger flooding.

"We ask for a modification of the weather that has been carried out by the BMKG so that it can be improved. This step is important to reduce disaster risk, especially in the Jabodetabek area which is prone to inundation and flooding during the rainy season," Danang told reporters, Thursday, March 6.

In addition, the Gerindra legislator from the Central Java electoral district also asked local governments in Jabodetabek to increase preparedness in facing the rainy season.

Danang emphasized the importance of river normalization, dredging drainage, and educating the public regarding disaster mitigation. As well as controlling land conversion in rain catchment areas.

"Modification of the weather is only one solution. Local governments must also work quickly in tackling flood-prone points so that the impact can be minimized," he said.

For information, Jabodetabek is one of the areas with a high level of flood vulnerability, especially during extreme rainfall.

BMKG itself has previously issued an early warning regarding the potential for extreme weather in the next few days.
