Judge Sentenced Defendant To Gay 165 Times Cambuk

The panel of judges at the Banda Aceh Sharia Court sentenced two defendants in the same sex or relationship with a total sentence of 165 lashes.

The verdict was read out by the panel of judges chaired by Sakwanah and accompanied by Said Safnizar and Mujihendra during a trial at the Banda Aceh Sharia Court in Banda Aceh, Monday.

The two defendants, Delmaza Ahmad and Apis Irawan, were present at the trial accompanied by their legal advisers. The trial was attended by public prosecutor Alfian from the Banda Aceh District Attorney's Office.

The total sentence of 165 lashes was for the defendant Delma Ahmad with a sentence of 80 lashes and the defendant Apis Irawan with a sentence of 85 lashes.

The panel of judges stated that the two defendants were legally and convincingly proven guilty of carrying out liwat's fingers according to the provisions in Article 63 paragraph (1) of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning the law of jinayat

The panel of judges also considered aggravating and mitigating matters before passing a verdict. Aggravating things, the two defendants as Muslims should uphold Islamic law.

In addition, this act was repeatedly carried out by the two. The actions of the two defendants disturbed the community. For the defendant Apis Irawan, the panel of judges stated that they had provided a place so that the act occurred.

As for mitigating matters, the two defendants admitted their actions, had never been convicted, and were young and had a long future.

"The two defendants also promised not to repeat their actions," said the panel of judges as reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 24.

Based on this decision, the defendants Delmaza Ahmad and Apis Irawan together with their legal advisers stated that they accepted. Likewise with the public prosecutor, they also accepted the judge's decision.

The defendants Delmaza Ahmad and Apis Irawan were arrested by residents at a boarding house, Syiah Kuala District, Banda Aceh City, on November 7, 2024. When arrested, both of them were naked.
