Second Period, Khofifah Focuses On East Java's Food Sovereignty

JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak were officially inaugurated during the simultaneous regional head inauguration procession at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, February 20.

In the second term of his leadership, Khofifah and Emil are committed to maximizing the food sector, in line with the priorities of the central government and global trends.

"We are not only talking about food security, but also food sovereignty. For five years we have led East Java, since being sworn in on February 12, 2019, East Java has become the highest national food producer since 2020," said Khofifah.

Khofifah Indar Parawansa revealed that rice and rice production in East Java was the highest in Indonesia in the 2020-2024 period. In addition, the livestock and horticultural sectors also experienced significant growth.

"In addition to rice and rice, egg production and fruits in East Java are the highest in Indonesia. We must continue to encourage this so that productivity increases," he added.

In addition to rice, beef and dairy milk production in East Java is also recorded as the highest nationally. Therefore, according to Khofifah, future targets are not only food security, but also to realize food sovereignty.

As previously reported, President Prabowo Subianto led the oath of 961 regional heads during the inauguration at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (20/2/2025). Including Khofifah Indar Parawansa, the inaugurated regional heads consisted of 33 governors and 33 deputy governors, 363 regents and 362 deputy regents, as well as 85 mayors and 85 deputy mayors.
