Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump's envoy to Ukraine, arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

Kellogg's visit came a day after the United States and Russia met in Riyadh to hold talks about ending the war without involving Ukraine.

"This will give us the opportunity to carry out good substantial negotiations," Kellogg said.

According to him, the negotiations will continue with weekend talks at the Munich Security Conference.

"We understand the need for security guarantees," Kellogg told reporters, saying part of his mission was sitting and listening".

Ukraine has repeatedly stressed the need for security guarantees from the US that will deter Russia from launching a new invasion once a peace agreement is reached.

Kellogg said he would share his findings with Trump and other team members to ensure the steps taken were right.

Zelenskiy postponed a visit to Saudi Arabia planned for Wednesday not to provide "legitimation" at Tuesday's meeting between US and Russian officials in Riyadh, two sources told Reuters earlier.

Trump dismissed concerns Ukraine would not be included in US-Russian negotiations to end Ukraine's war, and said Kyiv could have made an agreement with Russia earlier.
