Aceh Prosecutor's Office Arrests Fugitive Inmates Of Rohingya Immigrant Trade

The arrest team for the fugitive from the Aceh High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) arrested a convict of the Rohingya ethnic immigrants trade who had been on the wanted list (DPO) of the Lhokseumawe District Attorney.

Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the Aceh Attorney General's Office, Ali Rasab Lubis, said the convict was on behalf of Mujiono, a 42-year-old man, a resident of Alue Ie Itam Village, Indra Makmu District, East Aceh Regency.

"The convict was arrested in Tandean Village, Stabat District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The arrest of the convict was commanded by the Intelligence Assistant of the Aceh Attorney General's Office, Mukhzan. Furthermore, the convict was handed over to the Lhokseumawe District Attorney for execution of the sentence," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, February 15.

Ali said Mujiono was involved in a criminal act of trafficking in persons. This act was carried out by bringing 20 Rohingya immigrants from a shelter at the former Lhokseumawe Immigration Office to Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra, using a minibus.

"Mujiono did this because he received a number of rewards. However, the verdict at the Lhokseumawe District Court, Mujiono, was declared free," he said.

For the acquittal, he said, the public prosecutor made an appeal to the Supreme Court. The cassation was received and Mujiono was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of Rp120 million with a subsidiary of three months in prison.

"However, when the public prosecutor executed the Supreme Court's decision, the convict Mujiono did not show good faith by moving places, so he was included in the DPO since January 2024," he said.
