Affected By Landslides, Dozens Of Sonan Village Residents In Kupang Regency Need Help

JAKARTA - Dozens of residents in Sonan Village, Hamlet I, Bitobe Village, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province who were affected by landslides on Saturday (8/2) need food and clothing.

Central Amfoang sub-district head Marsyuner Prayudin Bureni was contacted from Kupang, Sunday, saying that currently there are 74 people who have been evacuated to Siloam Church in Bitobe Village, Amfoang District.

"Yes, that's right, the refugees lack food and clothing, because they only bring clothes on the body, while their plantation products are left behind," he said, quoted by Antara.

Some of the affected residents while saving themselves could only save their corn, but in only a small amount.

In addition to food and clothing, the refugees, consisting of 18 families (KK), also needed medicine.

Prayudin said that currently the local sub-district government together with residents and volunteers from several villages around the disaster site provided assistance to affected residents.

His party has also reported the incident to the Kupang Regency government, especially to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the local district Social Service.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Kupang District Social Service, Paulus Liu, said that the Regency government was handling it to meet the basic needs of the affected residents.

Previously, on Saturday (8/2), a number of residents in Bitobe Village, Amfoang District left their village because they were almost buried by landslides.

Residents then fled to the nearest church that was safe to avoid landslides that occurred due to high rainfall in the area.
