KUPANG - Currently, the seeds of tropical cyclone 96S are observed to be in the southern region of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This was revealed by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Class II Meteorological Station El Tari Kupang.

"The seeds of Tropical Cyclone 96S cause wind speed deceleration (convergence) and wind bends (Shear Line) in the NTT region which can cause the potential for rain with moderate to very heavy intensity," said Head of BMKG Class II Meterorological Station El Tari Kupang Sti Nenotek in Kupang, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, February 8.

This was conveyed by Sti when asked about weather changes in NTT which resulted in moderate to very heavy rain and accompanied by strong winds in a number of NTT areas, one of which was in Kupang City and its surroundings.

He said that the seeds of tropical cyclone 96S are expected to continue to increase to become Tropical Cyclone.

BMKG has also issued a three-day early warning regarding extreme weather in NTT effective from Saturday (8/2) to Monday (10/2) next week.

He said that the strong winds that occurred in the Kupang City area accompanied by moderate to very heavy rain were due to the active Asian Monsoon and the Weak La Nina Phenomenon.

"In addition, the influence of Rossby's equatorial waves that still exist around the NTT region can cause moderate to very heavy rain of intensity which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds," he added.

Therefore, BMKG reminded the public to be aware of the impact of moderate to very heavy rain and strong winds in the NTT region which can cause a number of natural disasters.

Starting from hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, flash floods, landslides, fallen trees, slippery roads, and damage to buildings or public facilities.
