Bus Headway Target Has Not Been Achieved, Transjakarta Calls For Efficiency

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Transjakarta Welfizon Yuza explained the reason why the company has not been able to meet the target time distance for buses to arrive at the bus stop (headway) on time during 2024.

As a result of the headway's timely target that has not been achieved, the DKI Provincial Government has also imposed a fine on Transjakarta of Rp. 1.7 billion. In total, the fines that must be paid by Transjakarta above have not been achieved by the minimum service standard (SPM) of Rp. 3.2 billion.

Welfizon admitted that Transjakarta should maintain the timeliness of its bus headway every 10 minutes during peak hours and 20 minutes outside of peak hours. But sometimes, the Transjakarta bus headway is not always on time.

"As a consequence, because according to the regulations, the Department of Transportation sees it every 10 minutes, once they stand 10 minutes if no one passes, even if there are no ones waiting for it, we will be fined," Welfizon told reporters, Thursday, February 6.

Welfizon said that the bus headway target was not achieved because PT Transjakarta felt the need to carry out service efficiency.

This is because until now Transjakarta tariffs are still subsidized from the DKI Regional Budget. So, to avoid the bus being empty of passengers when it was quiet, Transjakarta bought time for a headway.

"So on certain routes we see the need. If we monitor it on CCTV, the need at that hour is relatively lacking, so sometimes we don't run it, we have to have a bus for 10 minutes. So sometimes there may be 15 minutes, 12 minutes, then there will be a bus," he explained.

However, Welfizon emphasized that the fines that Transjakarta had to pay to the Transportation Service due to SPM had not been fulfilled in 2024 were lower than the previous year.

"From yesterday's total, we conveyed that in 2024, Rp3.2 billion was much lower than the previous year. This means that our SPM achievement is also better," said Welfizon.
