JAKARTA - The Palestinian Hamas group firmly rejected US President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" Gaza after putting Palestinians back elsewhere, and described his statement as "irresponsible."

In a statement, Hamas said Trump's remarks "attacked the people and our goals, and would not provide benefits to stability in the region."

Hamas stressed the group of struggles would not allow any country to occupy their land or impose trust in the Palestinian people.

For this reason, Hamas urges the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to immediately meet to discuss Trump's "dangerous statement", and take a firm and historic position that protects the national rights of the Palestinian people.

Earlier, Izzat Al-Rishq, a member of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, said Trump's statement reflected "deep confusion and ignorance of the Palestinian and regional struggles as a whole."

"Gaza is not just an ordinary area for a country to determine its fate, Gaza is an inseparable part of Palestinian soil," Al-Rishq said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, February 5.

He emphasized that any resolution must be based on the termination of the occupation and fulfillment of the legitimate national rights of our people, not on the logic of power, dominance, or the mindset of real estate traders.

The Hamas leader said Trump's remarks demonstrate the US's full alignment with the Israeli occupation and the continued aggression it has committed against our people and their rights.

Trump previously said the US would "take over" the Gaza Strip after placing Palestinians somewhere under the pretext of an extraordinary rebuilding plan he claims could turn the area into "Central East Riviera."
