Chronology Of Deadly Accident At Ciaw Bogori Toll Gate: 8 Dead, 11 Injured

BOGOR A fatal accident occurred at the Ciawi Toll Gate, Bogor City, West Java, on Tuesday, February 4, at around 23.30 WIB. A gallon truck suffered a failed brake and hit several vehicles at the toll gate, resulting in eight deaths and 11 injuries.

The Head of Bogor City Police, Kombes Pol Eko Prasetyo, explained that the truck drove from Ciawi to Jakarta before experiencing a failed brake function when approaching the toll gate.

"Temporarily, the vehicle suffered a failed brake, causing it to hit a series of vehicles that were making payment transactions at the Ciawi 2 Toll Gate. As a result, three vehicles caught fire and three others were badly damaged," said Kombes Eko, Wednesday morning.

Heavy clashes caused several vehicles to crash, while others caught fire at the scene.

Head of the Bogor City Police Traffic Unit, Kompol Yudiono, stated that all victims had been evacuated to Ciawi Hospital.

"All victims have been taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the vehicles involved in the accident have been evacuated, leaving only a gallon of cargo scattered at the location," said Kompol Yudiono.

The truck driver, who is suspected of having failed brakes, is still unconscious and is undergoing intensive treatment at the hospital.

This incident also caused severe damage to toll gates. Even though it has reopened, two toll gates still cannot be used due to severe damage.

The police are still investigating the exact cause of the accident, including checking the technical conditions of the truck before the incident.

This accident is a reminder of the importance of routine checking heavy vehicles before operating, especially on lanes with heavy traffic such as the Bogor 'Jakarta Toll Road.
