Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections (Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra hopes that the National Police can apply a restorative justice approach in resolving certain cases, especially for violators in special circumstances.

This hope was conveyed in the Briefing of the National Police Leadership Meeting (Rapim) on January 31 in Jakarta

"With these steps, it is hoped that the Police can become a more professional and accountable institution in carrying out their duties," said Yusril as confirmed, Monday, February 3, as reported by Antara.

In the briefing, he mentioned this in line with the role of the National Police in supporting the Astacita of the government, with a focus on fair law enforcement, prevention of human rights violations, and transparent management.

Yusril also reiterated the position, role, and authority of the National Police in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution (UUD) and Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Police.

He hopes that the role and position of the National Police can be further strengthened in supporting the realization of the Astacita of government.

The National Police is also expected to prioritize professional integrity and ethics to prevent discrimination and abuse of authority, as well as protect vulnerable groups.

In addition, he also asked the National Police to increase community participation in law enforcement through community-based police programs (community policing).

"This is to maintain security and solve social problems," he said.

Previously, the National Police was recorded to have resolved more than 2,000 cases through a restorative justice approach throughout 2024.

This achievement was conveyed by the National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the 2024 End Release event which was held at the Rupatama Building at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta 31 December 2024.

"Our commitment to prioritizing restorative justice is evidenced by an increase in case settlement through a restorative justice mechanism of 2,888 cases (15.89 percent) from the previous year 2023 of 18,175 cases, to 21,063 cases in 2024," said the National Police Chief.
