MATARAM - Mataram City Police, West Nusa Tenggara revealed a case of alleged theft by inviting the victim to a date in the hotel room.

Head of the Mataram Police Satreskrim AKP Regi Halili said the case was revealed by successfully arresting the perpetrator with the initials IB (30), from Batulayar, West Lombok Regency.

"We did this disclosure by arresting the perpetrator based on a follow-up to the victim's report," said Regi as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, January 30.

The police arrested IB on Thursday morning (30/1) at his house in the Batulayar area. The arrest of IB began with the follow-up to the victim's report.

"We have secured the perpetrator along with evidence, and are undergoing intensive examination," he said.

Regi said that IB carried out this crime mode starting from an introduction to the victim from East Lombok Regency, through social media.

From this introduction, the perpetrator took the victim on a date by renting a room at a hotel in the Cakranegara area, Mataram City. The victim's meeting with the perpetrator in the hotel room took place on November 17, 2024.

"While in the room, the victim went to the bathroom, the cellphone was left on the table. When he came out of the bathroom, the victim was shocked, the perpetrator was gone and the victim's cellphone was also missing," he said.

Regarding this situation, continued Regi, the victim asked the hotel and checked the CCTV footage to find out the whereabouts of the perpetrator. Because it did not produce results, the victim then reported to the Mataram Police.

From the victim's report, the police conducted a crime scene and traced the identity of the perpetrator through his social media account named "Rozi".

"After we searched, it was revealed that the perpetrator was in Batulayar," said Regi.

For his actions, IB, who is still in custody, is threatened with being subject to Article 362 of the Criminal Code regarding theft.

With this case, Regi appealed to the public to be careful in using social media, considering that there have been many modes of crime that have started from social media.
