JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi revealed that flooding at a number of points from Tuesday to Wednesday, January 28-29 occurred due to extreme weather. In fact, the rainfall in the last few days is not much different from the flood conditions in 2020.
In early 2020, the highest rainfall when floods hit Jakarta was 377 mm per day, and the lowest was 256 mm per day.
"This year, specifically on January 28, 2025, we observed the rainfall in Jakarta until 368 mm at Kemayoran Station, then the lowest was 264 mm," said Teguh after inspecting the flood evacuation post in Semper Barat, North Jakarta, Thursday, January 30.
Although the lowest rainfall on January 28, 2025 is still higher than in 2020, Teguh admitted that he was grateful that the impact of yesterday's flood was no more severe than five years ago.
"This is relatively higher than 2020, but we are grateful if in terms of extreme rainfall the rainfall is the same that the flood disaster is not the same in 2020," he said.
Teguh explained that the impact of flooding this time could be suppressed by a number of factors, ranging from flood management preparedness to improvement of the main and supporting water channel functions.
"Although not yet optimal, this has functioned well and synergizes various parties well, including regional apparatus officers, regional apparatus, and others," he explained.
The DKI Provincial Government has previously carried out a weather modification operation (OMC) at the end of the year on 7-9 December 2024 and 12-15 December 2024. The two OMC stages that have been implemented have shown positive results, with a reduction in the intensity of rain reaching 20 percent.

Meanwhile, Teguh admitted that he was still considering OMC to re-repress the impact of flooding in the near future, while coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
"Based on BMKG data, today it is raining moderately. Today we still haven't carried out OMC, but in the future, we have mapped it to do OMC if deemed necessary," said Teguh.
From the heavy rains that have hit DKI Jakarta and its surroundings since two days ago, at least 29 roads and 35 RTs in Jakarta were submerged.
Rain also caused an increase in the status of Katulampa Dam at 15.00 WIB to Alert 3 (Alert), Depok Monitoring Post at 19.00 WIB to Alert 3 (Alert).
In addition, the Pesanggrahan Monitoring Post at 13.00 WIB became Alert 3 (Alert), and the Upper Sunter Monitoring Post on Tuesday, January 28 at 17.00 WIB became Alert 3 (Alert) and at 18.00 WIB became Alert 2 (Alert).
BPBD DKI Jakarta mobilizes personnel to monitor inundation conditions in each region and coordinate elements of the Natural Resources Service, Highways Office, Gulkarmat Service to carry out inundation suction and ensure that the water lines function properly together with the local village heads and sub-district heads.
