JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights (HAM) condemned the shooting of Indonesian migrant workers by the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APPM). The incident that occurred in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia was considered a violation of human rights.
"The shooting by officers from the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APPM) which resulted in the death of one Indonesian migrant worker, one person who was in critical condition, and three other people being injured was an act that did not respect human rights values and principles," said the Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance at the Ministry of Human Rights Munafrizal Manan in a written statement quoted on Thursday, January 30.

As previously reported, APMM shot a ship in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia at around 03.00 a.m. local time on Friday, January 24. The shooting was carried out after ship passengers were suspected of resisting, causing one Indonesian citizen to die.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Kuala Lumpur stated that the victim who died with the initials B would be repatriated to Indonesia after undergoing an autopsy, while the other four victims had received treatment at the hospital.
