OKU - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra, has extended the emergency status of floods and landslides as an effort to overcome natural disasters as early as possible.

Head of BPBD South OKU Koni Ramli said the emergency status of floods and landslides was extended until March 2025. This was done following up on three natural disasters that occurred in the local area during the past week.

"Over the past week, there have been three natural disasters in South OKU, namely landslides in Simpang Saga Village and Bedeng Tiga Village and floods almost as high as the waist of adults occurred at Simpang Perkim," he said in Muaradua, Antara, Tuesday, January 28.

Koni explained, in determining this status, his party increased the capacity of disaster management personnel so that floods and landslides could be overcome as early as possible in order to anticipate casualties.

Hundreds of personnel who are members of the disaster management task force are alerted to follow up on extreme weather that has the potential to cause the impact of floods and landslides.

In addition to personnel, his party also prepared natural disaster management equipment ranging from rubber boats, fiber boats to evacuation tents for the victims.

Meanwhile, based on the results of the mapping, there are nine sub-districts in the area that are prone to floods and landslides during the rainy season.

The nine sub-districts include Appeal Agung, Warkuk Ranau Selatan, Mekakau Ilir and Buay Pematang District Thousand Central Ranau (BPRRT).

Then, the Districts of Muaradua Kisam, Kisam Tinggi, Kisam Ilir, and parts of Beringin Island include Sindang Danau and Sungai Are Districts.

These areas are mapped prone to flooding and landslides during the rainy season because they are in the highlands and close to the Watershed (DAS).

"We also ask people in South OKU, especially those living in areas prone to floods and landslides to increase vigilance so that natural disasters do not cause casualties," he said.
