Sufmi Dasco Ahmad Condemns The Shooting Of 1 Indonesian Citizen Who Died In Tanjung Rhu Waters

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives-RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, condemned the shooting that killed 1 Indonesian citizen migrant worker by the Malaysian Maritime Authority.

The shooting incident of 5 Indonesian migrant workers carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM), the Malaysian maritime authority, occurred on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 03.00 am in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Malaysia.

"The information we received stated that the bloody incident killed 1 Indonesian citizen migrant worker, while 4 others were injured and are being treated in hospital. And we are sorry," said Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Prof. Dr. Sufmi Dasco to VOI via written message, Sunday 26 January.

The deputy chairman of the Gerindra Party also criticized the excessive use of force carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM), the Malaysian maritime authority, which killed 1 Indonesian citizen. The next step, Dasco will summon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) to confirm the bloody incident.

"At this stage, we ask the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur to send a diplomatic note to the Malaysian government regarding the shooting incident of five Indonesian migrant workers," he said.

"We encourage the Ministry of P2MI to: 1. Establish an investigative team to uncover the bloody incident transparently. 2. Provide legal assistance to the shooting victims. 3. Regulate the repatriation of the bodies of the shooting victims to be buried in their hometowns. And the DPR will form a team tasked with monitoring the handling of the incident completely and transparently," he said.
